Today we visited the Chiang Mai Prison for a coffee!
The Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institution has a massage program plus a pleasant cafe, a boutique full of prison-made handicrafts, and a hairdressing facility. It’s all part of an innovative program that enables soon-to-be-released women to prepare for release by earning some money and learn a set of new skills. Customers leave the prison feeling relaxed and restored and not robbed blind.
We had a cup of coffee and purchased a pair of slippers each, the slippers cost less than the coffee (and they don’t fit). I did notice when we paid, the money was collected by one of the guards. I suppose that came as no surprise. Another day I will go and sample a massage.
